Occlusion from a Perio and Prosth Perspective
The role of occlusion in treatment planning complex periodontal and restorative cases will be examined, with emphasis on how occlusal forces, periodontal support, and prosthetic design influence treatment decisions and long-term outcomes. The course will review principles of mutually protected occlusion, periodontal regeneration, occlusal trauma, and occlusal adjustment within the context of interdisciplinary treatment planning. Concepts including anterior guidance, posterior support, axial loading, and Hanau's Quint will be applied to the evaluation and sequencing of complex cases. Clinical examples will illustrate how recognizing unfavorable occlusal relationships and potential prosthetic complications can guide treatment planning and improve periodontal and restorative stability.
Learning Objectives
* Evaluate the relationship between occlusal forces, periodontal support, and prosthetic design when treatment planning complex restorative cases.
* Apply principles of mutually protected occlusion, occlusal adjustment, periodontal regeneration, and Hanau's Quint to interdisciplinary treatment planning.
* Identify common prosthetic complications related to unfavorable occlusal relationships and incorporate strategies to minimize these risks during treatment planning.
