Complete Dentures History and Modern Concepts

This fascinating discussion will take us back to the early history of complete dentures, where we learn how global historical events affected the materials we developed and used for dental prosthetics. We will learn about different denture tooth materials from ivory to animal to human and different base materials from metals to vulcanite to celluloid to acrylics. There is even some local Arizona history and a famous murder that changed the way we use dentures throughout the United States. We will then fast forward to the most modern materials and techniques for denture manufacturing and go through some simple processes that can enhance your denture success.

Dr. Matthew Kahn

Dr. Matthew Kahn is a Phoenix area prosthodontist at the Carl T. Hayden Veterans' Administration Medical Center. Dr. Kahn graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in 2003 and embarked on a career as a Navy dentist with the 3rd Dental Battalion in Okinawa, Japan. After four years serving the Marine Corps as a dentist, Dr. Kahn moved to Bethesda, Maryland for a challenging prosthodontics residency program. After completion of residency, Dr. Kahn served an additional three years as a staff prosthodontist at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. Dr. Kahn then transitioned to the Navy Reserves and worked in several private offices while pursuing his passion for teaching at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health. Dr. Kahn was the director for the ASDOH/NYU Langone Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency until his transition to the VAMC in 2023.
