The New Era in Oral Health: Opportunities for the Oral Health Professional:

A large number of people in the U.S. population do not take advantage of the traditional dental care system. At the same time telehealth technology is having an increasing role in the delivery of health care services nationally. The COVID-19 pandemic has focused attention on teledentistry as an important tool for the oral health industry. It is now possible to reach many underserved people and groups through expanded practices using telehealth-connected teams.

This presentation will focus on strategies for expanding the reach of dental practices using telehealth-connected teams.

Learning Objectives:
- Describe the changing health care and oral health care environments that have created the significant opportunity to expand dental practices using telehealth-connected teams.
- Define teledentistry and describe alternate modalities for its use.
- Consider ways to expand their own practices using telehealth-connected teams.
