The ABCs of Laser Dentistry:

Has the excitement surrounding the introduction of lasers to dentistry been more smoke than substance? Since 1990, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of a dozen different wavelengths for dental use. These different wavelengths create a world of difference in how the lasers operate, and their usefulness in the oral cavity. This lecture will teach both experienced laser users and non-users alike the basics of laser dentistry.

Among the topics to be discussed include:
The best initiation technique for diode lasers (hint: not articulating paper or cork)

How to significantly increase the speed of your operative dentistry when using an Erbium laser (think chromophore)

Why the lowest-price laser is probably the most expensive laser to use (think operating cost, not purchase price)

By the conclusion of this lecture, attendees will:
• Understand why tissue chromophore content is the most important determinant of a successful laser procedure
• Know how to adjust laser parameters for optimum laser-tissue interaction
• Be able to take their laser dentistry procedures to the next level
