Einy-Meiny-Miny-Mo: Selecting the Best Sedative for Children or Teens:

Patients respond differently to different sedative medications. This course will provide a comprehensive review of 10 top sedatives, their pharmacologic profile and how to utilize them in treatment planning sedations for children and teens 2- 18 years.

Objectives - after this course, attendees should be able to:
• Understand levels of sedation per the AAPD/AAP guidelines
• Determine behavioral variables that may impact types and levels of sedation
• Be able to differentiate common sedatives on pharmacologic action and working time
• Understand concepts of hypo and hyper-responders

Sarat Thikkurissy, DDS, MS

Dr. Sarat Thikkurissy is professor and director of the Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. He obtained his DDS from New York University and his certificate in pediatric dentistry as well as a master's degree from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and Nationwide Children's Hospital. He also completed the program in advanced education in general dentistry at Wright Patterson and was in active duty in the U.S. Air Force for eight years as chief of pediatric dentistry at Ramstein AFB in Germany. He was director of the predoctoral program in pediatric dentistry at The Ohio State University from 2006-2011 and director of Inpatient.
